Second Training Course

The 2d training course took place in Oostende (Belgium), at the 4th and 5th June 2007 and was dedicated to introduce the basic principles of generating new entries into the Common Data Index (CDI). The training was organized by the IOC/IODE (IOC International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange Programme) that is responsible for this project activity and that has a great experience in the oceanographic data management trainings. The training was held at the IOC Project Office for IODE (Oostend, Belgium) that has all necessary equipment and facilities. Each trainee had a possibility to use a training Pc or his/her own laptop connected to the broadband Internet and to the training server.

Typing (by hand) entries is painful for large datasets which include multiple observations such as several vertical profiles since one CDI entry per observation (vertical profiles, time series …) is required. It is recommended to use tools such as Mikado in order to produce automatically CDI entries in XML. The Mikado tool could be interfaced to partner system in order to retrieve necessary metadata (latitude, longitude, date, …) and to generate CDI XML. This training course was completely focused on the principles of generating CDI using Mikado.

A CDI training course questionnaire have been fulfilled by participants during registration in order to collect information about technology in use (or planed to be used) by partners and to provide pertinent training during the course on how interface could be set up.
